From one gambler to another,
You don't have to do this alone.
A meeting is starting somewhere right now. Most of them are free, and all you have to do is show up. Camera off is fine.
"The sick healing the sick."
Help Through Lived Experience
Turn the pages. This is my story, in my own words.

Chapter 1
The truth behind GAORGO.com
"The sick healing the sick." That is the truth behind why I started GAORGO.com.
I did not start this because I read a book about gambling addiction. I started it because I lived it. I know the rush before the bet, the panic afterward, and the shame that follows you around even when nobody else knows what is going on.
The stomach drop
I know what it feels like to look at your bank account and feel your stomach drop. To avoid calls and texts because you do not know who is reaching out or what they will ask. To owe money you do not have.
To lie to people you love because the truth feels too painful, too embarrassing, or too hard to explain. For a long time, I felt like nobody could understand what was happening inside my head.
I tried the help
Treatment programs. Counselors. Support groups. People with degrees, credentials, titles and real knowledge. I am grateful for all of them. Therapy matters. Treatment matters. Support matters.
But the moment that really connected with me was when I spoke to someone who had actually been through it.
That kind of connection is different
Someone who knew what it was like to promise a bet would be the last one. Someone who understood chasing losses, hiding transactions, the pressure of debt, and the feeling that your whole life could fall apart at any second.
Sometimes you don't need someone to analyze you. You need someone to look you in the eye and say:
"I get it. I have been there too."
One bet is never just one bet
For a compulsive gambler, one bet can wake everything back up. The lies. The chasing. The hiding. The debt. The guilt. The fear.
That is why I believe relapse needs to be taken seriously. Not to shame anyone or make them feel worse, but because recovery has to be honest.
There is no shame here
There is no shame in needing help, in admitting you are struggling, or in needing to talk to somebody who truly understands.
I built GAORGO.com for people who are where I once was: scared, ashamed, overwhelmed, in debt, hiding things, chasing losses, or just tired of feeling alone.
You are not beyond help
You are not broken. You are not weak. You are not beyond help.
I am not here to pretend I have all the answers. I am here because I know what it is like to need someone who gets it.

Common questions
What is a sponsor?
A sponsor is someone further along in recovery who has worked the steps and offers to walk with you, one on one, for free. They aren't a therapist or a judge. They're someone who knows the pull of the bet, helps you stay honest, and picks up the phone when the urge hits. Most people find a sponsor by listening at meetings and asking someone whose story sounds like theirs.
What does it mean to do 90 meetings in 90 days?
"90 in 90" means going to a meeting every day for your first 90 days. Early recovery is shaky. A daily meeting breaks the gambling routine, fills the hours you used to spend betting, and surrounds you with people who get it. By day 90, you have a habit, a few phone numbers and a new way to spend your time.
Why is it important to use the phone list?
Gambling grows in secret. Many meetings share a list of members who are happy to take a call. The idea is to call before the bet, not after. Picking up the phone feels hard at first, but one call can break the trance. It also helps the person you call, because they're staying in recovery too.
Why can a 12-day retreat-style coaching model help?
Sometimes home is full of triggers: the phone apps, the bills, the stress. Twelve days away gives a real reset. A retreat-style program like Lilac Grove, our featured partner, pairs psychiatric care with daily recovery coaching, so you can steady your mind, face the money and the family side, and leave with a plan for going home. It's short enough to fit around work and family, but long enough to make a difference.
Why is this a family disease, and why can't you do it alone?
Gambling touches everyone close to you: the lies, the missing money, the worry, the broken trust. Spouses, kids and parents carry it too, which is why Gam-Anon exists for them. Willpower alone rarely works, because the addiction does its best work in isolation. Recovery happens with other people: a meeting, a sponsor, a coach, and a family that heals alongside you.
